Earning Money Online: Article Marketing

Filed under: Article marketing — Dee @ 4:29 pm

Article Marketing is used to interest people in visiting your site and to create backlinks. It also establishes you and your business as experts in your field. An article of between 350 to 700 words is written on a subject that is relevant to your business. That article uses keywords that are commonly used to search for the subject. The article is distributed to article directories, newsletters, and authority sites. Your name, company name, and website link are in the bio box of the article and included whenever it’s picked up. You can use ghostwriting services to write the articles if you don’t have time.

Article Marketing Strategy Turns Your Site Into An Authority Site

Authority sites are trusted by both visitors and search engines.  Three of the factors that boost a site’s authority are relevant content, quality content, and updated content.  A strong article marketing strategy can provide all three.

Relevance of content

A ragtag collection of bits and snippets of information on all sorts of topics won’t turn a website into an authority site no matter how many pages there are.  The pages must have relevant content to the overall theme and topic of the site.

Utilizing Article marketing strategy provides the potential of hundreds of related pages of content, all written around appropriate keywords.  These pages are not rehashed rewritten content but fresh unique articles.

For example: A site theme is dog food.  The articles could be “raw food dog diet,” “natural dog diet,”  “diet for dogs to lose weight,” “healthy dog food,” “where to buy dog food online,” “dog food for puppies,” and so forth.   Each article adds relevant content and focuses on a keyword used to promote that particular page.

Quality content

Content is the website.  Quality content demonstrates the webmaster respects the visitor and has pride in the representation of his/her company, products and services.   Professional level article marketing strategy can’t be replaced by cheap writers who don’t have a firm grasp on the English language.  While nearly everyone can write, it’s a talent to write well.

Do more than just a quick spell check.  A computer can’t tell whether you meant to use, their, there, or they’re or if blew or blue is correct or if peaked, peeked, or piqued is right.  If you don’t trust your own copyediting skills find someone who can look over your articles.

Don’t use an article spinner to generate web content.  An article spinner is a program which takes an article and randomly substitutes synonyms to generate articles that are somewhat different from each other.  Even if the spun articles were comprehensible, and they often aren’t, you aren’t giving your visitors anything new, just the same old stuff in a different form.

Updated content

Newly updated sites are ranked higher than old stale sites. Adding relevant content gives visitors a reason to return to the site. Each time new content is added it can be socially bookmarked, added to a blog, and announced on social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace.  The bookmarking and social networking adds backlinks and provides links for the search engine spiders to follow.

An article marketing strategy service provides fresh content on a regular basis.

Improve Your Website Authority Through Article Marketing

Authority websites are trusted by search engines and visitors as having reliable quality information.  An article marketing strategy is a critical component of that plan.  A good article marketing strategy puts the reader first and the search engines second. The authority of a site is based on several factors including the size of the site, and the quantity and quality of the backlinks.

Size of Site

The number of pages within a site affects the authority of the site.  Think of it this way.  Which would be more valuable: a book with 300 pages of facts, figures, and strong information or a book with only 30 pages, even if those 30 pages were packed with useful information?  It’s the same with websites.   Bigger is better.

How many of those pages are indexed within the search engines is important as well.

The goal of article marketing strategy is to provide pages of content that is concise, relevant and informative.

Importance: quality and quantity of backlinks

One method of determining the importance of the information on a page and its relevance to a search engine, is to look at how many other sites link to the page and the text that is used for that link. These one way links, called backlinks, are a measure of popularity.  The more popular a site is, the higher it will rank in the search engine results based on the text link.  The closer the text link is to the keyword phrase for the page the better. Ideally it should be the same.

The quality and relevance of the site doing the backlinking affects the popularity as well.   Backlinks from other sites are not always within the control of the webmaster. No penalty is given if the site is in a “bad neighborhood” such as gambling, male enhancement, or adult sites.   Or if the backlinking site is not relevant; otherwise competitors would bring down their opponents by inappropriate backlinking.

Article marketing strategy utilizes the keyword phrase in the title of an article several times throughout the article and then backlinks to the page on the webmaster’s site using the keyword phrase as well.  The articles are distributed throughout the Internet and hosted in article directories, picked up (with permission of course) by blogs, and other websites.

Each time this happens a backlink is created.  One article could generate thousands of backlinks.  A popular article distribution service, Content Crooner has a publisher list of 104,336 people and 2,854 sites. Another, Isnare distributes to over 1000 other sites.  Software article distribution programs are available as well.

A word of caution against article spinners is warranted.  An article spinner is a program which takes an article and randomly substitutes synonyms to generate articles that are somewhat different from each other.  The program has no comprehension ability. It can not determine if the article well written or even understandable.  The spun articles are often awkwardly worded, and many times make no sense.

Backlinks created over time show the increasing popularity of a site.  Articles distributed on a daily basis do exactly that — create backlinks.  Each article can backlink to a different page in the webmaster’s site using the appropriate keyword phrase for that page.

Article marketing strategy can boost your site to the top of the search engine rankings.

Articles: Your Best Weapon in Internet Marketing

Articles have been used for marketing for years before the Internet was even born.  Companies would hire a publicity director to work with hard copy publications in placing press releases in those publications.  The press releases would contain information about new products, changes in management, awards or any other newsworthy company event. It’s a win-win situation. The company gets increased exposure to potential customers through the readers of the publication and the publication gets good content.  The Internet has taken article marketing one step further and leveled the playing field.

Article marketing is simply writing short, 350 to 700 word, essays and placing them in online article directories.  The essay ends with an author resource box which includes a live link or two to the author’s website or blog.

The author receives free exposure and a link back to their site and the directory gets good content.  Often times other sites, blogs, and ezines will pick up the article and use it on their site.  Since the author resource box has to be included it’s a win-win situation.

The biggest mistake people make when using articles to market their website is not using relevant keywords in the title of the article and in the body.  For example “Blast the Fat Off” is a great title for a weight loss article but nobody, well almost nobody, uses that phrase “blast the fat off” when searching for weight loss and that’s how most articles are found.  If no one finds your article, no one will read it, and no one will click on your link. A better title would be “Tips to Lose Weight Fast and Blast the Fat Off.”  People do use “lose weight fast’  or “tips to lose weight fast” when they search.

The point of using articles is to get a high ranking in the search engines for the article based on the keywords being searched.  People click on the article, read it, and then click on the website in the author resource box to find out more.

The second biggest mistake made when using articles for marketing is a boring author resource box.  Every article directory allows a short bio, credit box, or author resource box.  Don’t put Jane Doe is the author of “Making Money Online”  Her website is http://www.JaneDoeMakesMoneyOnline.com  Use something like  “If you’d like more tips on how you can earn money online visit Jane Doe at http://www. JaneDoeMakesMoneyOnline.com

Make Money Online

The third mistake is boring articles.  You have about seven seconds to snag a reader’s attention.  That’s about how long it takes to read the title of the article and the first few sentences.  Use that time wisely.

Articles can be a powerful weapon in your Internet marketing business.
